A Contemporary Oasis in Earth Architecture
Alhamra is a stunning earthen architecture project set in a remote, arid landscape 60 km from Dakar. Designed by Richard Rowland, Alhamra is an architectural masterpiece that bridges tradition and modernity. Constructed entirely from compressed earth bricks, the residence embraces simple yet elegant lines that pay homage to ancient aesthetics while offering contemporary comfort.
The house features six suites, a spacious living area, a kitchen, and a dining room. At its heart lies an open peristyle with a quiet fountain, enhancing the sense of calm and hospitality. A 12-meter wind tower plays a crucial role in keeping the building naturally ventilated throughout the year.
Beyond architecture, Alhamra functions as a working farm, cultivating fruit trees, grains, peanuts, and vegetables while housing livestock in the stables and chicken coop. The villa’s large arched doors and windows frame breathtaking views of the surrounding farmland.
